Bangladeshi ICTS unions receive UNI's Freedom from Fear Award
Three Bangladeshi ICTS unions – Grameenphone Employees Union (GPEU), Banglalink Employees Union (BLEU), and Accenture Employees Union, Bangladesh (AEUB) – received UNI’s Freedom from Fear Award during the World Executive Board meeting in Nyon on November 16.
The Award committee noted that the award is “in recognition of their courageous stand in the face of a clear attempt by the telecom operators to prevent unionization.”
AEUB was the first union in the Bangladeshi ICTS sector to get recognition, but is currently fighting a deregistration attempt by the government. BLEU was formed last February and has since battled systematic anti-union attempts by the company. GPEU has been fighting for union recognition since 2012.
UNI Global Union and UNI ICTS congratulate all the leaders, activists, and members of the three unions for their hard work and dedication to building strong and independent unions in the ICTS sector in Bangladesh.
